HAG IN A BLACK LEATHER JACKET
Dreamland, 1964, 17 minutes
Starring Mary Vivian Pearce, Mona Montgomery, Tricia Waters
This surreal short, filmed on and around the Waters' Family home, depicts a white ballerina who gets in a car with a black man in a trash can. The black man in the can, the ballerina, a drag queen and another girl convene on a rooftop where the two lead characters are married by a KKK priest.
Apparently Mr. and Mrs. Waters were good sports about the project, for it was their roof and Mrs. Waters provided the piano accompaniment. It cost a whopping $30 from start to finish, the film stock stolen for the production by castmember Mona Montgomery.
Hag was shown in public only once at a local Baltimore coffeehouse, but was finally seen again as part of John Waters travelling photography exhibit Change of Life, and at career retrospectives.
